Hey SW Big Ted was the chief writer onboard who was in charge of the ships
post office. He was good for rubbers (loans) to his "friends" on a blank week.
Sadly our friend was one of the chosen.
Infact come to think of it there were quite a few gooners among the chosen ones.
Our drinking group, the same crowd every night used to drink in the same spot of the
upper deck. Big Ted used to circulate and try and infiltrate our group, as we all ways
had plenty of beer, but got short shift off of us.
(Just to give you an outline)

Well if you are not using it you scuffy ex gunner! But frankly I don't think you'd want to give something like that away - especially if you've still got it (now I wonder what he was trying to tell you?)

What I can't figure is why he would have a "seaman gunner" as a cabin hand - gunners are renowned for a lot of things but not exactly the BEST "cabin hand" they hace stewards for that job normally and with him being a full Post Captain normally a PO plus an OD steward!

When I did the job on the Tyne (reserve fleet Guzz :o     ) I was part of the bosses boat crew who helped out at parties as I was Victulled In, a lot of the guys where RA)........not only that it was a cheap night on the piss! We disposed of the semi empty bottles in a seamanlike manner! Now that WAS a good number, apart from ttaking the coxn's Dog for a walk...........it was one o' they Afghan's (the dog not the person) about the only good things to come out of Afghanistan - but by fcuk was it fast!    there where a couple of times it got away and the police at the dockyard gate going into barracks used to piss themselves when they saw the dog streak by going to the football field followed by this little winded jack chasing it - I never needed an ID card at that gate for a long time after......one look the copper would smile, laugh and wave me through!
