WHAT PETS DID YOU HAVE ,WELL ON THE STRIKER we had 2 monkeys, 2 dogs,a number of birds, we had one of the monkeys in the seamans mess, named it sippers had his own uniform for going ashore, behaved himself very well untill he had had some beer to drink then all hell would break loose.. started pissing on all the tables.the women loved him untill that happened. saw a copy of the navy news a few years ago about the striker coming back to portsmouth, and back came sippers, the buffer was then incharge of him. wonder where he ended up.even had a EAGLE onboard for a week, could not fly.one of the marines looked after it. kept it attched to a big chain..fed it on best meat..better fed than we were.had to get rid of it in the end, one of the lads won a very large dog playing darts,i woke up to see this very good dog on my mates bunk and him lying on the deck besides the dog..that was the last straw with the skipper, no more pets allowed on the ship..all right for him as he had a cannery, and a buggie of his own to look after.well lets here from you lot now...

Aye, the cap'n on the Brighton put a ban on pets.....a few days later the Electrical Ocifer appear with a parrot - which of course HE was allowed to keep! It was kept on the bofors gun deck (afore twas removed and a fucking big fan put up there), as you walked round the ship at night a wee voice from the watch on deck could be heard speaking to the parrot, continuously "FUCK OFF" - it worked!! As we returned to the UK the EO went to see how his parrot was doing and get it ready to be taken back to meet mummy and daddy EO......and it spake to him in words he did not understand "Fuck Off" quoth the parrot and all the sailors on the upperdeck fell around laughing - the members of the wardroom where not amused!

Yes I had a Malayan Grass Monkey I bought over at Johore Bahru markets, on the Finisterre. As you said Mick they love a drink, and its hilarious to watch him go swinging on the hammock bars
in the mess. The aft seamens mess also had one but it got to be such a pest.
I remember the mess killick tying a heaving line to its leg and then throwing the weighted bit
over the side. The monkey watching the rope uncoil and then whoosh it was gone.
I sold mine to a Chatham pet shop for a good price when we got home.
A good experience.
